Electronic Book Readers such as Amazon Kindle have greatly increased the ability for writers to reach those people who read electronic books.
Novelists can now penetrate markets they would only have hoped to reach.
This subject matter does not have the broad crowd appeal of such genres as Science Fiction or Fantasy. You are not going to find any vampires or wizards in this book.
However, on a planet of almost 6 billion people, there are millions of people to whom this book appeals. You just need to know how to find them.
Let’s take a look at a few methods.
If you live in a small town in Canada and have a passion for antique knitting needles the number of locals who share your passion is probably limited.
One of the great things about the internet is that people who share similar interests can communicate with each other no matter where they are in the world.
There are all sorts of book forums where electronic book readers discuss their passion for books such asKindle Boards. But, how are you going to get your book to stand out among thousands of others?
You’re probably not.
Time To Switch Gears
Does your novel have a specific subject matter?
Does it take place in a specific setting?
Let’s say your book is a suspense novel about a gay cop in Chicago who has an interest in Buddhism and loves to spend his free time fly fishing.
Don’t compete for electronic book readers with thousands of other authors. Find forums that focus on your subject matter.
Find forums on Gay & Lesbian topics, fly fishing forums, forums with a focus on Chicago and forums for people with an interest in Buddhism.
Once you’ve found your forums don’t try to market your book overtly. Simply, join in discussions and make friends.
Occasionally mention that you wrote a book that deals with the subject matter that people on that forum are interested in.
The more forums you post in, the more electronic book readers will find your book.
There are plenty of websites as well that enable you to post free articles on various subjects.
Again, what is the subject matter of your book?
Perhaps one of the themes is blues music, as it is in The Vagabond King. You may want to write a number of articles on blues musicians, perhaps do a series of reviews on recently released music.
At the end of the article you can put a link back to your webpage for those people who are interested.
Build A Website
Again, think about the subject matter of your book. Is the heroine an 80 year old spinster with a passion for antique knitting needles?
As I said before, If you live in a small town in Canada you probably won’t attract too much attention.
But, this is the internet!
Just remember driving traffic to your book is an accumulated effort and gains power over time.
